I’m dreaming of a ……. christmas

Ever wonder what Americans or Europeans would sing if the proverbial shoe was on the other foot??? It’s really been bugging me lately that we sing about a white Christmas where treetops glisten, and children listen to hear sleigh bells in the snow.… Come on now!!! On this side of the equator, the only thing white is the ice floating around in our drinks because we’re trying to stay cool while it’s 38 degrees IN THE SHADE!!!! And the only time you’ll see frosty the snowman is in July on your way to Bloemfontein. All the while, poor Rudolph the red-nose reindeer is lying in some butcher’s freezer in Greenside – true story, ask Jenny Crys-Williams from Radio702!!!

Okay so maybe I’m going on about one silly song when other songs like: Hark! The herald angels sing; Silent night; Joy to the world and We wish you a merry Christmas which all help to bring more context to the holiday season and the real reason for all our celebrations.

While this is Samuel’s second Christmas (he was a little helpless, needy, all-consuming blob the first time around) so I’m really looking forward to seeing this season through his eyes. Putting up the tree this year was an absolute adventure which began with us picking out a whole new tree because his father wasn’t impressed with the old one so the new tree is posh with all the bells and whistles. We’ve even got some lights for outside. I can’t wait for Christmas morning to watch Samuel open all his gifts and hopefully not eat the wrapping as well.

But whatever your Christmas looks like, feels like, whoever it’s shared with, the one thing that does matter is that it’s special.

This made me laugh… I’m in the UK but I actually hate snow and would rather be where you are by the sounds of it!
